Jeff Webb of The New American Populist Returns from US/Mexico Border

WASHINGTON, Sept. 5, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Entrepreneur, Jeff Webb, visited Yuma, Arizona last week on behalf of his political organization, The New American Populist (TNAP), a movement designed to revitalize America's middle class. His trip to the US-Mexico border was part of TNAP's investigative work identifying areas of challenge where the organization can make a meaningful impact for middle class workers and their families.

Upon arrival, Webb and his team met with Douglas Nicholls, Yuma Major, who in April 2019 declared a "state of emergency" due to an overwhelming surge of illegal immigrants. Nicholls explained that the influx of people immigrating through the Yuma area puts excessive strain on local health care facilities and various city managed services. His community is currently relying heavily on the support of local nonprofit organizations to supplement funds provided by the government.

The visit also included a briefing by Yuma County Sheriff Leon Wilmot and other local and regional law enforcement officials. The consensus was that political positioning is interfering with public safety.

The three-day trip was anchored by hours of candid discussion with Art Del Cueto, Vice President of the US Border Patrol Council. Del Cueto was joined by several Border Patrol council members who identified multiple locations along the Colorado River, commonly used by individuals to illegally enter the US.

"The takeaway from this trip is that the situation at the border is even more critical than I thought," said Jeff Webb. "The Mexican cartels are controlling the borders through human smuggling, human trafficking and the drug trade. The only viable long term solution to this crisis is for our government to pass and enforce laws that eliminate the incentive for people to enter our country illegally."
