Jellyroll, the Philadelphia Region's Hottest Party Band, Celebrates Its 40th Anniversary
With performances from Madison Square Garden to The White House, Jellyroll, Philadelphia's original horn party band, celebrates its 40th anniversary at the Ardmore Music Hall.
CHADDS FORD, Pa., July 16, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- From its beginnings in a Southwest Philadelphia row home to appearances at Madison Square Garden and the White House, Jellyroll is the area's original horn-based party dance band. It has been ranked among the hottest Philadelphia wedding bands for the past four decades—and it's time to celebrate when Ardmore Music Hall hosts the band's 40th anniversary bash on Friday, August 23, at 8 p.m.
"We started in as an 8-piece rock cover band in a row home in Southwest Philadelphia. We had a slamming horn section and that's what made us different," says Kurt Titchenell, bandleader, original member of Jellyroll, and owner of BVTLive. "We were in college at the time, and we only played nightclubs. Then in 1992, when I got married, I hired a band so my friends didn't have to play and could enjoy the party. During my wedding I said to myself 'This is great! I can do this!' so I built an awesome band, took out an ad in a magazine, and booked 30 weddings in the first year."
Since that time, Jellyroll has expanded to 12 members and has played at large and prestigious venues such as the Paramount Theater at Madison Square Garden and The White House in Washington DC. The band is committed to giving quality performances no matter where they perform, resulting in earned several reader's choice and critic's choice awards since 1999 including "Best of Philly", "Best of the Main Line", "Best of Delaware", "The Knot Hall of Fame" and Wedding Wire's "Couples Choice" awards, to name a few.
Titchenell has also expanded from managing one amazing Philadelphia wedding band to keeping over 150 musicians and DJs busy at his entertainment company, BVTLive. Yet through it all, he remains humble. As successful as his band and company are, if you ask him why he is in the wedding band business, he will say "I get to be a part of making people's dreams come true at our weddings and events, while helping our amazing musicians."
Such an outstanding accomplishment deserves a grand celebration. What better way to celebrate 40 years as one of the hottest Philadelphia area bands than with a dance party? "Over the last 40 years, we've played for weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, conventions, galas, social events, private parties, and made upward of a million people dance! We love what we do, so I'm inviting everybody to come out and celebrate with us on our anniversary. People always ask us when we're playing at a place where they can party with us, so this is the perfect opportunity!"
