Author Jeremy Wilson puts a sugary twist on children’s classic “The Wizard of Oz” in his new book, “The Wizard of Gauze” (published by Trafford Publishing).

Readers will meet Dorothy, a gummy bear who lives with her sprinkle friend Toto and Auntie Em, a chocolate-covered ant, inside a snack bar in Kansas. When Toto is kidnapped and taken away by a mean old prune, Dorothy sets out to find him on a whimsical adventure that will take her to faraway places.

With the help of Glenda the goody, goody gumdrop, Dorothy follows the Golden Grahams Road leading to Jolly Rancher City, home of the Wizard of Gauze. Glenda believes the Wizard can help Dorothy find Toto and make her way home, but Dorothy’s journey won’t be an easy one.

Fans of L. Frank Baum’sThe Wonderful Wizard of Oz” and the subsequent 1939 film adaptation will find familiar characters in Wilson’s unique take on this popular tale.

An excerpt from “The Wizard of Gauze”:

“On their way Dorothy and the butterscotch candy met a piece of tin foil. He said, ‘If only I had a candy bar inside of me then I would be a candy bar wrapper.’ Dorothy said, ‘Maybe the Wizard of Gauze could help you.’”
