40th Anniversary Gala honors founders and longtime leaders in enabling opportunities for individuals and families
NEW YORK, March 22, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Jericho Project, a nationally-acclaimed nonprofit, has achieved 40 years of ending homelessness and improving the lives of thousands of New Yorkers annually with stable, supportive housing and the vital services to sustain it.
To mark this milestone, Jericho Project will present Celebrate! 2023: 40 Years of Hope and Homes, a gala gathering community supporters, corporate partners and friends to recognize organizations and individuals who have devoted decades of steadfast support for its mission. Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP will receive the Legacy Award; Con Edison will be the Corporate Spotlight Awardee, and Jericho Project Board Secretary, Cara Eisen, will be honored with the President's Award.
Emceeing the event is NBC 4 New York Anchor Natalie Pasquarella, a recipient of four New York Emmys® for her journalistic excellence as part of the news team.
"Over the years, Jericho Project's enduring goal has been to support our fellow New Yorkers, whether they are without homes or at risk of homelessness, in envisioning and attaining healthier, more fulfilling futures for themselves and their families. We are so proud of our community of clients, employees and supporters who share in this celebration," said Tori Lyon, Jericho Project CEO, who has led the organization for 27 years.
Jericho provides equitable housing and supportive services spanning employment, mental health and wellness, family stability and homelessness prevention to nearly 3,000 New Yorkers annually. This includes over 700 veterans, as well as adults, families with children and young, largely LGBTQ+, adults.
A year of Jericho support costs approximately $18,000 per adult client and $25,000 per family annually, compared to $50,000 for a cot in a New York City shelter, $74,000 for a room in a family shelter, $115,000 for a city jail cell, and $401,000 for a bed at a hospital.
"Homelessness and housing insecurity have been and remain pervasive issues in New York City, and I know of no better ways to address them than by offering my time and resources to Jericho Project," said Eisen.
Jericho currently provides over 600 units of housing in the Bronx and Harlem in nine residential buildings which are upgraded for sustainability. With 24/7 staff and onsite counselors, the residences are designed to cultivate a green community of camaraderie and wellness.
Jericho also enables families to achieve stable, safe housing in apartments throughout the city, including 80 studio and one-bedroom units for adults and 35 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments for families.
A crucial component of Jericho's work is homelessness prevention. Its "Rapid Rehousing" programs help speed young adults, young adult families, veterans and veteran families into affordable apartments by providing rental assistance and counseling in securing housing, managing finances, and maintaining housing stability. In 2022 Jericho served 450 veteran families, moving 170 into permanent housing, and moved 91 other households into permanent housing, on average in less than 30 days.
The event will take place on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at City Winery, 25 11th Ave, at Hudson River, New York. To attend or support the gala, contact Daniel Preston, Director of Development and Communications, [email protected]
