JM Bullion Previews the 35th Anniversary Redesign of the American Eagle Coins and the Last Run of a Classic
In honor of the 35th anniversary of the U.S. Mint's American Eagle bullion coin program, the gold and silver eagle are getting an update. The modifications reflect aesthetic changes as well as new, state-of-the-art security features. It's a watershed moment for what most believe are the most sought-after bullion coins in the world.
DALLAS, Nov. 18, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- It's quintessentially American. The classic gold and silver eagle coins issued by the U.S. Mint present two of the most familiar symbols in United States history: the enduring Lady Liberty and the majestic American eagle. The U.S. Mint describes them as, "iconic, timeless, and beautiful." Indeed, they are among the most recognizable coins in the world as they've retained the same designs since their release in 1986.
A FAMILIAR COIN CLASSIC
The obverse of the current U.S. gold eagle, features Augustus Saint-Gaudens' Lady Liberty striding forward with her torch held aloft, clutching a laurel branch. The reverse depicts Miley Busiek's mighty bald eagle approaching a nest of young eaglets.
The obverse of the classic silver eagle displays Adolph A. Weinman's 'Walking Liberty' wrapped in the stars and stripes, ambling into the brilliant sun light with branches of laurel and oak. The reverse is John M. Mercanti's famous, patriotic shielded eagle.
AN HISTORIC DESIGN UPDATE
But these designs are getting exciting new updates in 2021, in honor of the 35th anniversary of the U.S. Mint's American Eagle bullion coin program. The modifications reflect aesthetic changes as well as new, state-of-the-art security features. It's a watershed moment for what most believe are the most sought-after bullion coins in
the world.
The obverse of the re-designed 2021 gold eagle will feature a refreshed depiction of Augustus Saint-Gaudens' Lady Liberty, while the reverse will debut a striking profile of an eagle in vivid detail. Its powerful beak, steady eyes and meticulous plumage are the work of designer Jennie Norris and sculptor Renata Gordon.
The 2021 silver eagle will unveil a revitalized version of Weinman's Walking Liberty on the obverse, while the reverse will debut a new bald eagle in flight. Its broad, outstretched wings engulf the coin — as its talons clasp an oak branch to steady its landing. The new design is the work of nature and wildlife artist Emily Damstra.
COLLECTIBLES IN THE MAKING
Since this is the last year of the classic design, the current 2021 American gold and silver eagles now available will become instant collectibles and coveted keepsakes. The new 2021 design, scheduled for release mid next year, is also likely to garner great interest. It reflects the first changes to these iconic coins in over three decades, and collectors and investors alike will rush to acquire these new versions of the most popular bullion coins ever minted.
The American eagles are the only bullion coins whose weight and purity are guaranteed by the United States Government. The gold eagles are minted in four weights – 1/10, 1/4, 1/2 and 1 ounce. The silver eagle comes in one weight of 1 ounce.
A PANDEMIC SAFE HAVEN
Amid the worsening pandemic, gold and silver bullion offer investors a safe haven particularly as the global health crisis has now exploded into a world economic crisis. History has proven both metals to be a reliable store-of-value that typically move opposite to the value of the dollar and the financial markets. Gold is also a proven inflation hedge and as central banks around the world print historic amounts of money to stimulate their virus-battered economies — rising inflation levels could be right around the corner.
