Julius Kim Cunanan was passionate about the PRT mission to promote and encourage participation in the sport of bicycling, to support members in bicycle racing, and to foster national and international competition. Julius welcomed all new cyclists with a smile and open arms. A weekly summer series was established in the community that allowed all cyclists to hone their skills as they challenged themselves with other cyclists of all levels from novice to elite racers. I
In 2022, the JKC Memorial Hunte Parkway RR was started. The event is a USA Cycling-sanctioned race with racers from SoCal, Nevada, Arizona, several other states, and Baja California. It goes wider, as the men's pro race winner last year was from Great Britain. The race lives on with the help of sponsors from community, regional, and national businesses. This year's honor of Title Sponsor goes to Herman Cook VW Encinitas.
The day's events start with the novice level and close with professional racers. A community highlight is the Kids Event which has 3- to 12-year-olds getting a lap on the part of the same course the racers compete on. All kids will receive medals, a Mattel toy, podium medals, and winners' t-shirts for the top 3 in each age group. Come out and enjoy the excitement of bicycle racing and visit the racers in the racer's village and the vendors' village that will feature sponsoring businesses, including tasty food and beverage.
