Journalist's New Contemporary Novel Thrusts the Reader into the Complex Corporate World, Unraveling a Plot to Kill an “Iceman”
Somers, N.Y (PRWEB) June 20, 2015 -- “The Iceman Checks Out,” is the second novel by Linda Spear. The story takes place in a small village on the Hudson River, where a multi-national corporation is about to undergo a massive downsize.
Until recent events at work and the arrival of a new vice president, Lydia Barrett, Manager of External Communications at Clearview Chemicals, thought that the quote “Nothing is certain but death and taxes” was indisputable. But after her recent experience with imminent corporate downsizing, she found herself adding that nothing is even more certain in the world of business than downsizing.
Robert Bryce Swaine, the newly hired vice-president, had no idea that his first week on the job would be his last week on earth. The new boss’ ability to make enemies was evident, especially when it was rumored that he planned to fire an entire department of capable professionals in an extremely short period of time.
Soon, every corporate employee who worked at the company felt threatened and their peace of mind was shattered as terrifying incidents became an everyday event.
One Sunday night, while working in his palatial corner office, Swaine was struck with a fatal blow to his head. Clearly, someone had been pushed over the edge.
Along with chief detective Joe Ruschak, Lydia becomes heavily involved in the follow-up investigation and the ever-growing list of potential suspects. She is haunted by the feeling that major clues to the murder lead to someone she knows. What she doesn’t know is that the killer is even closer to her than she ever could have dreamed.
