Kansas City Teacher Receives $2,500 Academic Award from California Casualty
San Mateo, CA (PRWEB) September 01, 2017 -- Lexi Childs is starting the new school year with $2,500 to help purchase supplies and fund special learning projects at her school. The kindergarten teacher at Prairie Point Elementary School in Kansas City, MO, is the recipient of the latest $2,500 Academic Award from California Casualty.

Ms. Childs, who has a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction, has taught at Prairie Point Elementary School since 2010. Her mission is to help students to love learning through a positive attitude and encouraging environment.
She plans on using the award to purchase interactive tablets to supplement reading activities at the school. “This award means that I can get more resources for reading into my students’ hands without the financial restraints due to spending money out of my own pocket. This will allow me to get some of those items that will help kids fall in love with learning and experiences with technology and books that they might not get every day at home,” she said.
California Casualty created the Academic Award after learning how expensive preparing for the school year can be for educators. National surveys find they spend an average of $500 of their own funds each year, with many spending much more, for classroom supplies and materials. This was the 14th Academic Award given since the program began in 2012.
