Transformational and Innovative Leader to Drive Technology and Digital Strategies for Leading Construction Management Firm
PROVIDENCE, R.I., Oct. 27, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Gilbane Building Company announced that Karen Higgins-Carter has been named Chief Information and Digital Officer. In this position, she is responsible for developing, planning, and implementing the company's technology, data, digital, and cybersecurity strategy and will serve as a member of Gilbane's Executive Leadership Team.
She joins Gilbane with more than 20 years of progressive experience in diverse industries and has a proven record of leading large transformation efforts, building talented teams, and delivering business solutions in partnership with her clients. Before joining Gilbane, Karen was Chief Information Officer at Webster Financial Corporation, where she expanded digital customer acquisition, onboarding, and servicing capabilities; launched a data cloud; and enhanced responsiveness with a transition to a scaled agile operating model. Her work included creating a business-focused cybersecurity strategy recognized with an IDG CSO50 Award in 2020.

Ms. Higgins-Carter earned a dual degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) and Economics and Business (BA) at Lafayette College. She has also completed executive education programs at MIT Sloan (Corporate Innovation; Blockchain Technologies) and Harvard (Cybersecurity: The Intersection of Policy and Technology). She maintains an active Certified Information Security Systems Professional (CISSP) credential.
She has served since May 2022 on the Boards of Otsuka America Pharmaceutical and Otsuka Pharmaceutical Development & Commercialization. She is also active as Chair of the Events Committee of the T200 Foundation, a nonprofit supporting the development of women executives in technology, and as a CIO Mentor at Columbia University.
