Pour an Old Fashioned and pipe in some Sinatra. The mainstay of classic Wisconsin Supper Clubs –Kaukauna Spreadable Cheese -- is turning 100!
With a nod to its Wisconsin heritage and a step towards the future, Kaukauna is celebrating this milestone by expanding its product line and introducing new “no artificial anything” cheese balls. Other no-artificial-anything flavor varieties will be rolled out in 2019.
“We are excited to celebrate Kaukauna’s 100th birthday with new products that are just as delicious as always but have a shorter ingredient list,” said Matt Barlow, brand manager for Spreadable Cheese at Bel Brands. “As we head into our second century, a new generation is discovering Kaukauna and they’re loving not just the nostalgia of it, but the authenticity, the flavor and the versatility of spreadable cheese as well.”
Kaukauna invites everyone to celebrate its 100th year this fall and holiday season by hosting their own Kaukauna supper club party at home. Throughout October, the company will be sharing contemporary takes on iconic Wisconsin Supper Club specialties, including original recipes and tips that will bring a little Wisconsin to anyone’s table from Chicago Chef Tom VanLente.
The Kaukauna Cheese Company was founded in 1918 by Hubert Fassbender as a dairy-product distribution company. Fassbender, who also distributed beer, created the iconic spreadable cheese after numerous tavern owners requested something to serve at their bars. Sold in a ceramic crock, Kaukauna Spreadable Cheese was served in fine hotels and supper clubs across Wisconsin and acquired the nickname "Club Cheese." The Kaukauna Klub brand was introduced and copyrighted in 1933. As a staple in Wisconsin Supper Clubs, the cheese grew in popularity to become the undisputed market leader of spreadable cheeses. Today, Kaukauna can be found in supermarket deli and cheese cases nationwide. For more information, please visit http://www.kaukaunacheese.com.
