ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y., Feb. 5, 2025 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Ken Pribil Jr. Foundation recently made its eleventh annual Sarcoma Research Grant to support angiosarcoma research being performed at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) in New York, NY, for a combined $100,000 in grants to support this rare cancer research at MSK.
This 2024 grant in the amount of $14,500 fulfills the organization's mission of commemorating the life of Kenny Pribil Jr., from Rockville Centre, NY, who died at age 19 of a high-grade angiosarcoma, through annual grants that support sarcoma research.
These Ken Pribil Jr. Sarcoma Research Grants support the research of Cristina Antonescu, MD, the Director of Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology at MSK. She is one of the leading experts in angiosarcoma, a sarcoma subtype that derives from the inner lining of blood vessels. Dr. Antonescu's research focuses on the molecular mechanisms driving these tumors, how and why resistance begins, and genetic underpinnings that can be used to target angiosarcoma.
"We are thrilled to acknowledge and support the promising research efforts of Dr. Antonescu and her team at MSK," says Kevin Pribil, President of the Board of Directors for the Ken Pribil Jr. Foundation. "We are thankful for their drive and perseverance while exploring new treatment options for angiosarcoma. We are also grateful for the ongoing support from our organization's donors, which has a direct impact on our mission to improve the lives of people with sarcoma cancer."
Since its inception in 2006, the Ken Pribil Jr. Foundation has given research grants to benefit sarcoma research at various institutions, especially MSK. The foundation has also supported business-focused undergraduate study with college scholarships and plans to give its 25th annual scholarship to a graduating student from South Side High School in Rockville Centre, NY, in June 2025.
