Kevin McAllister's newly released "Bumble, Fly" is a wonderful piece of children's literature that tells every single being that they have a purpose for existing
"Bumble, Fly" from Christian Faith Publishing author Kevin McAllister is a children's book about the idea that bumblebees are not supposed to be able to fly, but they fly, despite human theory and doubt, because that is simply what God created them to do. It is French entomologist August Magnan who often gets credit for determining that bumblebee flight is impossible, and somehow that theory has been promulgated through western culture.

"Bumble, Fly" is the creation of published author Kevin McAllister, an Army veteran, who served over 21 years as an Infantry Officer before retiring and taking a JROTC position at a local high school. He is also a Youth Pastor at a church in their community. Kevin is originally from southern New Jersey and earned his commission through the United States Military Academy at West Point.
McAllister shares, "I have come to recognize that depression, anxiety, and hopelessness is a rampant plague in our society today, affecting too many young people. I believe that these psychological issues are, in part, due to young people believing that they have no real purpose in life. 'Bumble, Fly' is my effort to remind children that they have a real purpose and that God has a wonderful plan for them, regardless of what the 'world' might tell them.
The 'Bumble, Fly' book was created as a result of three unconnected events that came together in a strange way.
First, when I was a young child, my cousin explained the whole 'bumblebees cannot fly according the laws of physics' idea to me at my grandparents' house in southern New Jersey. I never forgot that conversation.
Second, in 2011, I was about to become a grandfather. My wife, Becca, and I were discussing what she would be called. She did not want to be 'grand-ma, nanna, me-maw, etc.'; she wanted a unique moniker. One day she tells me, 'I have decided that I want to be 'Honey,' you know, 'Honey B' like a honeybee. I flippantly responded. 'And I'll be 'Bumble,' like a bumble bee. I meant it as a joke, but our grandchildren have always called us 'Bumble' and 'Honey.'
Also, in 2011, I was trying to come up with something to get my Youth Group at church more excited. I had floated an idea of creating a made for video series fake band, like a Christian version of 'This is Spinal Tap' or a cheap version of a fake Christian Rockumentary, also inspired by my favorite band of all time, the Monkees. As luck would have it, I ran into a fellow who wanted to do some video work. This launched our Ryan 'n' Ryan adventure, which was a video series with almost 30 'epicsodes'. Since we were a 'band,' we needed some songs; so I wrote about seven somewhat silly songs for the videos.
As I was writing these songs, my grandfather title, Bumble, came to mind, and I remembered that discussion with my cousin those many years prior. I decided to write a song about how only God knows how bumblebees fly, because according to the laws of physics, they cannot.
The song, 'Bumble, Fly' was born.
We inserted 'Bumble, Fly' into one of our video 'epicsodes' without performing the whole song. When we played 'Bumble, Fly' at a youth retreat, members of the real worship band with us told me that the song was 'legit.'
We ended up performing the song at my daughter's wedding reception, at a closing celebration of a youth camp in Houston, in nursing homes, at youth retreats, and at other venues. Finally, we tried to get a cleaner recording of the song to place on Youtube, and that is where the idea of making this song into a book began.
As an Army JROTC Senior Army Instructor, one of my talented students drafted up the illustration concepts for the book, and I included a couple of her original illustrations in the completed work."
