WEYMOUTH, Mass., Nov. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Keypoint Intelligence – InfoTrends is pleased to announce the completion of its groundbreaking industry study, Platforms and Apps: The Future of MFP Solutions. This study gives insight into the market of customer attitudes toward "apps" that add functionality to office MFPs. The results and analysis also shed light on the impact an OEM's app portfolio—or lack thereof—may have on customers' purchasing decisions when it comes to MFP hardware.
"The trend in document imaging solutions has been toward targeted MFP-resident apps that are easy to deploy, a snap to use, and relatively inexpensive to purchase," said Jamie Bsales, Director of Solutions Analysis at Keypoint Intelligence. "But the industry has had no visibility into IT decision makers' appetite for apps, which types of apps they are likely to purchase, how much they are willing to pay, and if an app portfolio makes them more likely to favor one brand of MFP over another. That is, until now."
InfoTrends surveyed more than 400 document imaging software and MFP purchasing decision makers and interviewed end-users, channel, and OEMs and ISVs to determine which MFP apps are used most and why, preferred acquisition methods, and the level of impact apps have on the purchase decision.
Through this research, InfoTrends found that top MFP app types currently in use are scan to cloud, connector to departmental software, and connector document management system. Large companies reported greater usage of the cloud while small companies reported an even mix among apps, with no particular standouts. This aligns with business priorities of improving document security, moving to the cloud, and improving document sharing. InfoTrends also sees an opportunity in this market with automation for document conversion: Overall, 28% of respondents expressed an interest in automating document conversion tasks, with that need increasing to 31% among respondents from small companies.
These are just a small sample of the intelligence gleaned from this first-of-its-kind study. The survey results contain hundreds of data points unavailable in any other forum, making this must-have reading for C-suite executives, product planners, and marketing managers of OEMs and ISVs that serve the document imaging industry.
