The International Franchise Association (IFA) today named Kimberly Roman, owner of senior placement franchise Owl Be There in Delaware and southeastern Pennsylvania, as a 2024 Franchisee of the Year. Roman was honored at the 65th IFA Annual Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada, for being an outstanding franchise establishment owner-operator. The IFA Franchisee of the Year awards are given to the top franchisees from IFA member brands across industries from around the country and the world.
"Franchisees of the Year represent the very best of franchising," said Matt Haller, President and CEO of the International Franchise Association. "They embody the American Dream, create economic opportunity, serve their communities and show what it means to go into business for yourself, but not by yourself. We are proud to recognize Kimberly Roman with the highest honor the IFA awards to individual franchisees, and we salute her tireless efforts to lift up all those she serves."
The Franchisee of the Year awards recognize leading franchise owners from IFA member brands whose outstanding performance and contributions help protect, enhance, and promote the franchise business model. Nominated by their parent company, individuals are selected for their service to their communities, fostering a strong and vibrant workforce, opening the doors for career growth and entrepreneurship, and supporting their fellow franchisees.
Kimberly Roman has been an Owl Be There franchisee since 2022, a perfect fit considering her illustrious career path in health care. She spent over three decades as a registered nurse (RN), specializing in both community health and post-acute care settings. Prior to launching her Owl Be There franchise, Roman previously held director-level positions at ChristianaCare HomeHealth and BAYADA Home Health Care, gaining valuable clinical and operational experience in assisted living, home health, and hospice care. Just over a year ago, Roman was selected as a regional delegate to the annual Alzheimer's Association Community Leadership Summit, having previously served on various committees and participating as a community education volunteer for the Alzheimer's Association's Delaware Valley Chapter. She's also a member of Owl Be There's Founders Circle Advisory Group, which promotes the organization's best practices and mentors new franchisees. Between her first and second full years of operation, Roman experienced a 250% year-over-year increase in revenue. This is the third consecutive year that an Owl Be There franchise owner has been awarded "Franchisee of the Year" by the IFA. LuAnn Martinson, who owns a Charlotte-based Owl Be There franchise, won in 2022, and K.C. Reyerson, owner of the Frederick, Maryland and Loudoun, Virginia Owl Be There operation, won in 2023.
Owl Be There is a franchise opportunity featuring a network of independent, home-based senior referral specialists who work with seniors and their families to determine the most suitable option for their care level and other criteria. "Since launching her home-based Owl Be There business over three years ago, Kimberly Roman has become a model of excellence for the brand, as well as for her fellow franchisees," stated Laura Greenwood, president of Owl Be There. "She has become an invaluable senior-inspired diplomat for the senior care network in the Wilmington, Delaware and southeastern Philadelphia communities she serves, having become a key resource for expert senior living and care guidance. Simply put, Kimberly Roman personifies Owl Be There's mission, which is to improve the lives of seniors by providing wise guidance around senior living and care."
There are approximately 830,000 franchised businesses across the U.S., providing nearly nine million direct jobs and generating over $896 billion in economic output. According to Oxford Economics, franchising on average provides higher wages and better benefits than non-franchised businesses, as well as greater entrepreneurial opportunities to minorities, women, veterans, and other underrepresented communities.
