AUSTIN, Texas, July 5, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- For the first time KOMPAN, Inc. has carried out a Matched Funding Grant campaign in Canada. For the Matched Funding Grant Campaign, KOMPAN focuses on aiding community groups, schools and cities in amplifying the impact of allocated dollars toward inclusive play areas or interactive fitness spaces. The grant application process required that groups provide detailed information on their organizations, their missions and their goals for the new fitness or playground areas.
KOMPAN received applications from worthy candidates in every province. After a lengthy evaluation process, five awardees have been selected from a large field of applicants.
"The awardees from Canada are all exceptional candidates and we are excited to partner with them," said KOMPAN President Tom Enright. "We see the impact new playgrounds can have on communities and are honored to bring our inclusive and sustainable play equipment into these projects."

Mohawk Council of Kahnawake, Quebec
Kahnawake is a Mohawk reservation just south of the island of Montreal, Quebec. There are a total of 10,909 community members, 1,571 are under the age of majority. Due to economic factors, Kahnawake has a growing number of homes shared by multi-generational families made up of grandparents, parents and children--the average Kahnawake home has 4 occupants.
The hope is to create an inclusive playground for interaction between children with special needs, their families and others. They hope to reduce social isolation and strengthen community and family bonds.
City of Port Moody, British Columbia
The City of Port Moody is a diverse and dynamic community located in the Metro Vancouver region. The City of Port Moody has experienced significant population growth - from 18,216 people in 1991 to approximately 34,000 currently. The existing playground at Westhill Park was constructed in 1986 (33 years ago!).
They hope to have a new, safe playground that meets current CSA standards and provides a much-needed amenity for the community of Port Moody. The new playground should have an inclusive universal design that enables and encourages children to play and discover. The playground should offer a fun and interesting way for families to interact with one another and help to provide a much-needed break from screen time and the busyness of everyday life.
Northgate Christian Education Society, British Columbia
Northgate Christian Education Society is a non-profit and charitable society whose main purpose is to operate a Kindergarten to Grade 12 non-denominational Christian school under the name of Phil & Jennie Gaglardi Academy. The school is characterized by excellence in academics, creativity in the performing arts, and a warm, welcoming attitude toward people from all walks of life. Teachers and staff work cooperatively and collaborate with each other to passionately acknowledge that learning is an essential lifelong process. They believe every student has something unique and valuable to contribute to our community.
They want the new playground to provide an engaging way to build into the physical, social/emotional intelligence of school age children throughout Comox. They want to remove barriers and make this an inclusive and accessible playground for children of varied abilities. They would also like to give back to the surrounding community and promote this relationship for years to come.
Lake Louise Rec Center
Lake Louise is the highest elevated population in Canada. The community is made up of longtime locals that call this beautiful place home, and others that come for a season and move on. However long they stay, they all serve each other, and millions of visitors from around the globe come to see famed "Lake Louise" and ski resort! To be able to live in Lake Louise you have to work in Lake Louise, and because of this the community has a strong connection with each other and the surrounding beauty of the Rocky Mountains.
For the new playground, they want to capture the nature elements around it and put it into a safe play space to enjoy. With increasing numbers of children in the community, and families visiting the area, they want a bigger and better WOWing factor. The hope is to have a playground worthy of and just as amazing as the terrain around it.
Sensisyusten School, British Columbia
Sensisyusten School is a First Nation school offering Junior Kindergarten to Grade Five. Sensisyusten translated means 'The place where you become anything you choose to be.' Their mission statement is: 'Sensisyusten delivers a superior, highly flexible, learner-centered education enriched by traditional Okanagan teachings/values, language and culture.'
Sensisyusten is open to all students, aboriginal, and non-aboriginal living on and off reserve, and is within walking distance to the majority of the students.
They are hoping for a new play space for kids to get outside and move for gross and fine motor development. They also want to see a new accessible playground where parents and community members want to come and get outside and play with their children.
