The award is based solely on an employee survey administered by Energage LLC. The survey covers numerous topics affecting workplace life from employees' views on leadership, managers, pay, benefits, training, and work-life balance. Companies who scored the highest locally – and exceeded national benchmarks – made the Richmond Times-Dispatch list.
Koontz explained how valuable the survey results are for the company and its continued growth. In addition to collecting feedback from employees about workplace culture, the survey also measured various culture drivers that are critical to the success of an organization. For Employee Appreciation and Strong Values, KBJW was rated in the top 25% of companies participating. Employees ranked the company in the top 5% of those surveyed for Work-Life Balance.
