Ryan graduated from Harvard Law School where he was an articles editor of the Harvard Law Review. After law school, Ryan clerked for Judge David F. Hamilton on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Before the clerkship, he was a Redstone Fellow at the Chicago Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights where he advocated for voting rights and police reform. In addition to this work, Ryan represented employment discrimination plaintiffs in the Northern District of Illinois and the Illinois Department of Human Rights.
