L.L.Bean Lights-Up the Holiday Season with Northern Lights Celebration

Hundreds of Christmas trees, thousands of lights, Santa and his reindeer, hot cocoa and holiday cheer for the whole family on opening night of the annual celebration, Friday, November 22

From forested trails of twinkling lights to visits with Santa and his reindeer, there’s magic to be found at L.L.Bean in Freeport, Maine this holiday season, November 22-December 31.

People of all ages are invited to join this Maine holiday tradition and to help illuminate the hundreds of Christmas trees in Discovery Forest on November 22.

Internationally recognized outdoor retailer L.L.Bean, best known for its legendary customer service and high-quality gear and apparel, will open the annual Northern Lights Celebration on its Freeport campus on Friday, November 22. People of all ages are invited to join this Maine holiday tradition and to help illuminate hundreds of Christmas trees in Discovery Forest at 6:45 p.m. The tree lighting ceremony will feature performances from three Bowdoin College a cappella groups. Before and after the tree lighting ceremony, families can visit Santa and his reindeer, a model train village, warming hut, and walk-in snow globe. Complimentary hot cocoa will be provided for everyone, courtesy of Mastercard.

New to this year’s celebration is the WinterKids StoryWalk where families can follow the pages of a storybook through the forest. Other activities for the whole family include a Holiday Plaid-venture scavenger hunt.

Opening Night, Friday, November 22

  • 4:00-8:00 p.m. – Visit Santa in his workshop and reindeer in his barn
  • 4:00-9:00 p.m. – Experience the Model Train Village, join the Holiday Plaid-venture scavenger hunt, grab a complimentary cup of hot cocoa, and take the WinterKids StoryWalk.
  • 6:45-7:00 p.m. – Tree Lighting Ceremony in Discovery Park
  • 7:00-7:30 p.m. – Enjoy music from three Bowdoin College a cappella groups the inside the stores
  • 7:00-9:00 p.m. – Explore the trails of Discovery Forest with hundreds of lighted Christmas trees and special holiday photo opportunities

L.L.Bean’s Northern Lights Celebration continues with events and activities every day through New Year’s Eve from crafting classes to pet nights. Ongoing daily events include the Discovery Forest, warming hut, model train village, and walk-in snow globe. Weekends will feature Santa and reindeer until December 22.
