Growth of San Diego-based team building and cooking events company is in large part due to its multi-talented staff

Lajollacooks4u has expanded its team as it gears up for a busy fall season. The San Diego-based team building and cooking events company has seen record growth in 2019, having hosted a multitude of team-building events and cooking challenges this year. Teams, such as Amazon, ServiceNow, Vistage and Illumina, have all visited the company’s La Jolla-based venue, and Lajollacooks4u has worked hard to accommodate the growing demand for its services. As a result, it has built a phenomenal team.

Adam Portnoy serves as the company’s master of ceremonies. He is responsible for keeping all aspects of the events running smoothly, as well as entertaining the crowd through a variety of games, trivia questions and icebreakers. With his vivacious personality and attention to detail, Adam has been able to captivate guests since the company’s inception in 2008.

Mariela Olvera serves as Lajollacooks4u’s primary sous chef and kitchen manager. Mariela has been with the company for 11 years, and she manages the kitchen staff, helps prepare a variety of recipes and ensures every facilitator is prepped and prepared prior to and during all events.

Lajollacooks4u also employs several chefs, including Founder and Chef Jodi Abel; Chef Melanie Peterson, a graduate from the International Culinary Center, New York, and former attorney; Chef Nicole Estrada, owner of catering business Fresh Creations; and Chef Leo Ranks, a professional chef with over 15 years of experience in the food industry. Each are an incredible asset to the team and bring their own unique set of skills to every cooking event.

Other team members include Colleen Pescatore, a team facilitator who is certified in integrative nutrition; and multi-talented Julia Shapiro, who serves as the company’s artist, facilitator and photographer.

Together, the team provides a multitude of skills to help make every cooking event a success.
