Lake Placid Hotel Named Finalist in Global Interior Design Competition
Lake Placid, NY (PRWEB) November 26, 2014 -- High Peaks Resort today announced their newly renovated Lake House has been named a finalist in Interior Design Magazine’s prestigious “Best of the Year” design awards. The awards are an intense competition honoring the most impressive interior design projects undertaken and products developed around the world each year, the award would be a first for a Lake Placid hotel property.
This honor follows an extensive multi-million dollar refurbishment completed in June of 2014 that transformed the former Lakeview Motor Inn into the new 44-room Lake House. Designed as a new take on the classic motor lodge of the 1960s, Lake House has delighted guests with a rustic chic aesthetic, retaining its authentic Adirondack feel while delivering the modern amenities expected by travelers today.
As a finalist, Lake House is squaring off against impressive and beautifully conceived hotels in Boston, London and Austin.
“To be considered as a finalist for this prestigious award, Lake House already feels like a winner. We set out to create a hotel experience that celebrates the region’s particular aesthetic and history, and this honor is a testament to that effort,” said Matthew Wheeler, General Manager. “Being considered for the honor of the best motel design of the year globally is a tremendous validation of the global destination status of Lake Placid.”
Originally built in 1961 as Leahy’s Lakeside Inn, the hotel evolved in 1979 to become the Lakeview Motor Inn. Today, every room at Lake House and its expansive lobby overlooks Mirror Lake, delivering a classic Adirondack experience and a modern mountain vacation retreat. Guests can enjoy a drink at Lake House bar, a snack before dinner, a swim in the indoor pool, or a retreat from the day in the hot tub. Lake House guests can also enjoy the amenities of High Peaks Resort including 2 outdoor pools, free kayaks, rowboats, paddleboats, fitness center and on-site spa and salon. Lake House hosts, Jon and John, can also arrange guided fishing trips, boating, golf, snowmobile, ski outings and more.
Given annually, the Best of the Year awards are an opportunity for Interior Design magazine to honor the best and brightest talent in the global interior design industry. These awards are given in dozens of categories honoring projects and product design for myriad uses.
The development of Lake House was the creative vision of Studio Mapos, a highly regarded architecture and design firm from New York City. Inspiration was drawn from the Great Camps of the Adirondacks: deep umber with rustic red highlights at the exterior, interiors inspired by humble hunting cabins and the continued rustic red highlights throughout. Each room was assigned one of the Adirondack High Peaks, and features maps and custom artwork incorporating key facts and stories about that particular peak.
The Interior Design Best of the Year Awards will be announced on December 4 in New York City.
