BROOKLYN, N.Y., July 7, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Lamad Academy Charter School (LACS) announced today that it would launch in Fall 2020. The academy is a new charter school in Brooklyn that emphasizes STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math. LACS is now accepting application inquiries for sixth grade students for the upcoming school year.
"What differentiates Lamad Academy is our resolve to commit as much instructional resources and talent as possible toward the holistic development of our students," says Alfred Cockfield, founder and executive director at LACS. "We want to prepare scholars for a life of academic and professional excellence."
The news of the opening comes as the public charter school has created a unique mission, vision, and host of initiatives to reach its goals, including:
- The integration of math and science across all school subjects, helping students make better connections between the content they are learning and the physical, natural world
- Data-driven progress monitoring and instructional frameworks to improve decision-making for school leaders and allow for a better understanding of the impacts of the standards-based curriculum
- A positive learning environment with a foundation of shared values among educators, scholars and staff
- Encouragement for students to push boundaries and question the world around them, leading to growth, the creation of unique perspectives, and a desire to continue learning throughout their lives
The LACS teaching methodology integrates the school's motto: "The teacher has not taught until the student has learned." LACS's curriculum and instruction aim to change the lives of its students, not merely to present facts. This approach will empower lifelong learning, self-discovery and more effective collaboration with peers.
LACS will serve the Brooklyn community by inspiring students to pursue ongoing education and eventual careers in math and science areas.
The first school year from 2020 to 2021 will begin with 125 students in the sixth grade. After this initial year, one school grade will be added annually to reach more young scholars in the community and scale at a manageable rate.
Interested families can apply by filling out the online application, emailing it to [email protected], and waiting for further instructions in an email.

About Lamad Academy Charter School:
LACS encourages scholars to question conventional thought. Our curriculum and basis for success depend on students' ability to pursue self-discovery and ask questions while having fun and connecting with their peers in unique ways.
LACS offers a STEM-based curriculum that includes the arts (STEAM) in support of their philosophy to meet students where they are. The goal is to empower students so that graduates are better prepared for education beyond LACS. They continue to emphasize the importance of learning and growth, not just teaching.
