NEW YORK, Sept. 5, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Luxury brand Lancôme is proud to announce the launch of the Write Her Future Institute, a program to increase low literacy rates among women and raise awareness of the critical issue of low adult literacy that affects 43 million adults in the United States, two-thirds of whom are women. By partnering with ProLiteracy, an international adult literacy nonprofit, Lancôme has the power to transform the lives of thousands of women over a 3-year period by increasing their literacy levels and giving them the opportunity to improve their lives and those of their families.
To launch the Write Her Future Institute, Lancôme, and their brand ambassadress Zendaya, presented a check to ProLiteracy on September 4, 2019 at Macy's in New York City.
Of the 43 million low literate adults in the U.S., the fastest growing segment are English language learners, the majority of whom are women. About 50 percent of the 2 million immigrants that come to the U.S. each year lack high school education and proficient English language skills. This severely limits their access to jobs, college, and citizenship, and increases their vulnerability to living in poverty. ProLiteracy and Lancôme worked together to develop the Write Her Future Institute to empower women through literacy, by providing the opportunities and tools for women to improve their English language skills and improve their lives. The Lancôme grant to ProLiteracy will provide free licenses to thousands of women across the country to Voxy®, an innovative digital education solution that helps adults build English language skills through personalized instruction using authentic materials delivered on smartphones, tablets, and computers. Adult literacy programs and students can apply for free one-year Voxy licenses on the website at http://www.writeherfutureinstitute.com.
"Today, 36 million young women lack basic reading and writing skills. Often hidden, this handicap causes young women to face exclusion and dependence, with serious consequences for themselves, their families, and their close ones," says Suriya Parksuwan, president, Lancôme USA. "This is why Lancôme has committed to fight against young women's illiteracy and give a voice to this invisible reality. This partnership seems natural for Lancôme, whose mission since the very beginning has always been to help women in their quest for self-fulfillment and expression of what makes them unique. The Write Her Future Institute, is a commitment, which aims at raising awareness and initiating a movement in favor of women."
"ProLiteracy has been changing lives and communities through the power of adult literacy for over 60 years. Because of our vast network and partnerships in the adult literacy field, we reach over 1 million adult learners annually," says Kevin Morgan, president and CEO, ProLiteracy. "Adult education helps empower women with the skills they need to be successful. Through this exciting partnership, ProLiteracy and Lancôme foresee a world where women increase their literacy skills, get better jobs, improve their health, leave abusive relationships, break the cycle of poverty, and support their families. We are excited about the important work that ProLiteracy and Lancôme can do together."
