WASHINGTON, Dec. 16, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Land Trust Alliance, a national land conservation organization working to save the places people need and love by strengthening land conservation across America, today welcomed introduction in the U.S. Senate of unified, bicameral language for the bipartisan Charitable Conservation Easement Program Integrity Act. The following statement can be attributed to Andrew Bowman, president & CEO of the Land Trust Alliance:
"Thanks to our champions in Congress, the Charitable Conservation Easement Program Integrity Act is now closer than ever to passage. I applaud Republican Sens. Chuck Grassley and Steve Daines along with Democratic Sens. Ron Wyden and Debbie Stabenow for introducing a new version of the bill to align with existing House bill language. This updated version of the Charitable Conservation Easement Program Integrity Act reflects a strong bipartisan, bicameral consensus for how to end abusive syndicated conservation easement transactions. The bill is ripe for passage, will generate revenue for the U.S. Treasury, and should be included in end-of-year legislation.
"Our nation's federal conservation easement tax incentive is a crucial land conservation tool. We cannot allow a few bad actors to put it at risk by raking in billions of dollars at the expense of American taxpayers. Passage of the Charitable Conservation Easement Program Integrity Act would protect taxpayers, end abuse and make it clear that conservation easement donations are not intended to be profit opportunities.
"Now is the time for the Charitable Conservation Easement Program Integrity Act to become law. Support for this bill is support for more land conservation."
