Lane End Head Chef’s Apprentice Crowned MasterChef: The Professionals Winner
High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire (PRWEB UK) 15 December 2013 -- Steven Edwards – a former student of Lane End Conference Centre’s Head Chef Mike Day – has been crowned the overall winner of MasterChef: The Professionals 2013.
Steven, 27, originally trained under Mike as an apprentice at the Burnham Beeches Hotel, Windsor.
Last night Steven beat off tough competition to take the prestigious MasterChef Professional Champion title.
Mike, Executive Head Chef at the award-winning conference centre in Lane End, Buckinghamshire, said: “Steven’s enthusiasm and passion for cooking was palpable right from the beginning of his career.
“He was incredibly dedicated and even at 17 showed a raw talent for creating delicious, great looking dishes.
“I know Steven has had previous success when he won Young Chef of the Year in 2010 but to take the overall MasterChef: The Professionals title takes exceptional talent - I am absolutely thrilled for him.”
MasterChef: The Professionals tested the chefs’ culinary skills to the limit.
Run over the past five weeks, the cookery competition culminated in last night’s final where the three remaining chefs were tasked with preparing a three-course meal for the judges.
Steven’s winning menu consisted of an Anjou pigeon breast starter, pan-fried stone bass fillet main and intricate honey cake and honeycomb dessert.
Responding to his win, Steven said: “It feels so surreal; I don’t know what to say, apart from thank you!
"I’m exceptionally happy, I can’t believe it, this is what dreams are made of isn’t it! I don’t know how to describe how I’m feeling, it means so much. These kinds of things don’t seem to happen to me, it just feels unbelievable.”
In his role as Executive Head Chef of Lane End Conference Centre, Mike Day heads up a team of seven full-time chefs preparing specialist menus for conference delegates and wedding parties at The Pavilion Wedding Venue at Lane End.
Mike said: “I have incredibly high standards and every dish that goes out has to taste delicious and look amazing, it’s as simple as that.”
