LaserShip, an e-commerce parcel carrier servicing the Eastern and Midwest U.S., will sponsor The Simon Keith Foundation Golf Tournament and Dinner for a second consecutive year this Friday, Oct. 5 at the Revere Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fifth annual event raises funds for children who have undergone life-saving organ transplants and want to return to an active lifestyle.
“We are thrilled to be a sponsor of The Simon Keith Foundation event. We love the event’s focus on highlighting the importance of organ donation and the support of children who received a live-saving organ transplant. It is truly an amazing cause and event,” said Bruce Abt, director of LaserShip’s Global Critical Delivery division.
“One of the centerpieces in our fundraising efforts is our annual golf tournament in Las Vegas,” said Simon Keith. “While the golf tournament will be a lively event, it underscores our mission to bring our supporters together to raise funds for children who have undergone a life-saving organ transplant. We are incredibly thankful for sponsors like LaserShip that support us each year to extend our mission in the community and raise organ donor awareness.”
The golf tournament, presented by a grant from the Engelstad Family Foundation, begins at 1 p.m. PT, followed by a dinner at 6 p.m. The tournament includes holes with llamas, goats and cigars, and The Simon Keith Foundation will honor an organ transplant recipient during the dinner.
Simon Keith is the first athlete in the world to play a professional sport after receiving a heart transplant, and one of the world’s longest living heart transplant recipients. In 1984, Keith was diagnosed with myocarditis, a deterioration of the heart muscle, and received heart transplant surgery at age 21. Prior to his diagnosis, Keith was a promising soccer player, and resolved to return to the soccer field. Shortly after his transplant, he played for the Rebels at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Three years after his heart transplant, he was named MVP at the Senior Bowl and drafted into the Major Indoor Soccer League.
In 2011, Keith established The Simon Keith Foundation to provide financial support to youths who have undergone a life-saving organ transplant and want to return to an active and healthy lifestyle. The organization also works to increase awareness about the importance of organ donation.
Keith currently serves as the chief operating officer for the Nevada Donor Network (NDN), the federally designated organ procurement organization (OPO) serving Las Vegas. LaserShip’s Global Critical Delivery division helps facilitate organ donation transportation, and currently partners with six of the nation’s OPOs, including the NDN. LaserShip is also a member of the Workplace Partnership for Life, a national initiative bringing together the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the organ donation community with workplaces to help increase awareness about the importance of donation.
