The ongoing revival of interest in Latin took a step forward with the founding of The Ancient Language Institute.

Our goal at The Ancient Language Institute is to work with excellent teachers who put the best materials and methods into action at the service of students.

The ongoing Latin language renaissance just took another step forward with the founding of The Ancient Language Institute: https://ancientlanguage.com

The Ancient Language Institute offers live, online classes available to students at multiple levels of Latin competency. Classes, all conducted online, are available at the Beginner and Intermediate levels, and an Advanced level course is currently in the works.

“The renewed interest in ancient languages, especially Latin, comes at a particularly exciting time,” said Jonathan Roberts, the Director of The Ancient Language Institute. “While people have been learning Latin for centuries, we are now in a position to benefit from second language acquisition research and create pedagogically effective courses.”

This focus on the best of second language acquisition research and on learning in a fast and fun way is evident from the ALI’s Latin program web page: https://ancientlanguage.com/learn-latin/

Roberts said that while most people associate effective study with struggling through difficulty, having fun is usually a better way to learn. It keeps you engaged longer, which increases the amount of time you spend learning as well as upping the quality of your engagement.

“Why spend an hour staring at a grammar chart when you could read a Latin novella instead?” Roberts said.

But The Ancient Language Institute does not focus exclusively on the Latin language or even just on classroom instruction. Roberts said that the ALI is seeking to add qualified Ancient Greek and Ancient Hebrew professors to its ranks in the near future. Further, the ALI will also be rolling out a series of print and digital language learning resources.

“Our goal at The Ancient Language Institute is to work with excellent teachers who put the best materials and methods into action at the service of students,” said Roberts. “One of the nice things about doing this in an online context is that we can offer students the opportunity to truly learn a language with unparalleled flexibility.”

“You can learn Latin in your living room, drinking your own coffee, at a time that works for you with classmates from Australia, New Zealand, England, Canada, and all across the United States. If the current trend continues, we’ll have an international community of teachers and students learning ancient languages and discussing primary texts in the languages they were written in. We’ll have something of a renaissance. ”

The Ancient Language Institute exists to aid students in their path to proficiency in ancient languages. Through interactive approaches to vocabulary and grammar, graded and extended exposure to comprehensible input, and accompanied by active pedagogy, students can acquire fluency in ancient languages as successfully as they do modern ones.
