Latina Keynote Speaker and Author Karla Monterrosa Honors #Metoo Movement with Courageous Story of Healing from Sexual Abuse
Ever since the beginning of the #metoo movement just one year ago, we have seen the sheer impact of sexual abuse that spans ethnicity, gender, age, and culture. Abuse survivors were finally given a voice where there was once only silence and shame. Karla Monterrosa's new book, Unbraided: Transform Your Pain to Power and Purpose, addresses this deep need for acknowledgment of abuse and healing from it, and she provides a step-by-step way to personal transformation.
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 15, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The rise of the #MeToo and Time's Up movements have exposed cases of sexual abuse within workplaces in the fields of government, entertainment, sports, and various other industries. Child sexual abuse has been missing from the conversation, which is surprising. The prevalence and effects of sexual abuse are devastating.
Considering that one out of every ten children experiences sexual abuse by the age of 18 and there are over 42 million survivors of sexual abuse in the United States, the #metoo movement is only the beginning. Statistics tell us that women who have experienced abuse are prone to re-experience abuse again later and adopt harmful beliefs about sexuality, leaving them vulnerable to revictimization.
Karla's journey started as a Salvadoran immigrant, and she built up two decades of experience in community and economic development before leaving her career in city government to truly walk in her purpose. Her personal experience of healing from her own sexual abuse, both as a child and in the workplace, prepared her for her career as an author and keynote speaker, with a passion to reach women who have experienced abuse.
Through her unique coaching program, Unbraided Life (http://www.unbraidedlife.com), Karla guides survivors of abuse to discover their specific needs and develop actionable strategies. She's penned multiple online pieces about her journey from abuse as a Latina and immigrant, and the trials and tribulations she faced to overcome her own personal experiences, to then build a program, and now book, to empower others.
Karla is a certified Mending the Soul support group facilitator, but it's her almost two decades of experience in community and economic development that make her programming practical, unique, and transformational.
