Bismarck, N.D. (PRWEB) September 12, 2013 -- The new book “Four Score and More” (published by Trafford Publishing) is a memoir, history and a family legacy that reads like a novel. It is a record of author LaVera Edick’s life, her ancestors who paved the way for her journey through life, and world events over the past century that helped to shape her life into the woman she is today.
Edick is the main character in the book, with family and ancestors playing major roles. This is the true story of her growing up on a dry land farm in Nebraska during the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl Days, and World War II. Her father, who was raised as a Quaker, was taught that “God has a plan for each of us. He helps those who help themselves.” Edick learned to live by those words. She tells heart-warming tales and tear-jerking stories of those days when money was scarce, but there was an abundance of love and family togetherness.
Married at 17 during World War II, she spent the next decade running a truck line and selling salt to ranchers in the Nebraska Sand Hills. Decades later, as a stay at home mom living in Bismarck, N.D., she was able to pursue her interests in art and genealogical research. Many copies of Edick’s paintings are found throughout her book, as well as many photos taken nearly a century ago by her mother with a Brownie Kodak camera.
