Attorney Jeramie Gertz Dissuades Distracted Drivers

According to the January 21, 2016 Insurance & Risk Management Knowledge Alliance article, at any given daylight moment across the United States, approximately 660,000 drivers are using cell phones or manipulating electronic devices while driving.
The article further states that using a cell phone while driving reduces brain activity associated with driving by 37%, and the majority of Americans (88.5%) believe that a driver talking on a cell phone represents a threat to their personal safety. In 2012, the article further reports, cell phone use was noted on police reports as a contributing factor in 3,283 Texas crashes, including 35 fatalities and 640 serious injuries. As for texting, drivers who are texting while driving are eight times more likely to be in a crash or near-crash as drivers who are not texting.
“The bottom line is that it is crucial to avoid any distractions while driving,” said Gertz. “It is also important to remember that you are almost certainly sharing the road with distracted drivers, so always stay alert and drive defensively.”
