REDLANDS, Calif., June 8, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Author David William Salvaggio shares a volume of 85 poems inspired by four decades of teaching high school students in his new collection "Restless Gold: Musings about California Pupils and Other Verses" (published by Archway Publishing).
Penned from 1980 to 2020, Salvaggio shares lyrical insight into four decades filled with significant social change, wars, political upheaval, two pandemics, discrimination, and civil unrest as he taught a diverse group of high school students who were wealthy, poor, famous, infamous, abused, successful, and categorized as Dreamers. With both humor and heartache, these timely works reflect the struggles, failures, and victories of Salvaggio as he witnessed failures, heartache, and the power of love and hope to overcome all darkness.
"It is non-fictional stark reality which exposes the humor, tragedy, victories, and failures of teaching high school kids," Salvaggio says, adding that he hopes that his book gives readers "Positive inspiration as well as disgust and determination to help change the world."

About the Author
David William Salvaggio was born on New Year's Day in 1953 to a father and mother who were both ordained ministers. In early childhood, he knew he was "different," and struggled with abusive discrimination. From age 15 to 25, he endured a restless search to forsake his natural sexual orientation and become straight. Once he accepted himself as gay, he was able to concentrate honestly and openly in his 35-year career as a public high school teacher. He was glad to team up with some other staff and students to establish the first Gay-Straight Alliance at the site where he taught for 30 years. Now retired, he enjoys reading, traveling, his adored pets, and free-lance writing, which he has done since 1990.
