As of May 14th, 2021, there are 8,268 open and available attorney jobs from just over 1,000 law firms that Leopard Solutions tracks, an increase of 150% since the start of the pandemic and is higher than pre-pandemic numbers.
Some statistics to note:
- Since January 1, 2021, we have seen a staggering 70% growth in open attorney jobs
- During the attorney growth period of 2017 to the end of 2019, on average there would be 6,000 and 6,500 open attorney jobs at any one time. Current numbers represent a minimum increase of 27%.
- Since October 1, 2020, when most law firms started actively pursuing attorneys with books of business to make up for the previous 6 months of sluggish results due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there's been an increase of 106% in open attorney jobs.
The challenge for law firms will now be how to source candidates in a very competitive market and how to retain their people.
