LIA to Present Jamie J. King with R. James Rockwell, Jr. Award at ILSC 2019
The Laser Institute (LIA) will recognize Jamie J. King, Certified Laser Safety Officer (CLSO) for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, with the R. James Rockwell, Jr. Educational Achievement Award at the International Laser Safety Conference (ILSC).
ORLANDO, Fla., March 11, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Laser Institute (LIA) will recognize Jamie J. King, Certified Laser Safety Officer (CLSO) for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, with the R. James Rockwell, Jr. Educational Achievement Award at the International Laser Safety Conference (ILSC).
Awarded biennially since 2005, the R. James Rockwell, Jr. Educational Achievement Award honors individuals with outstanding contributions to laser safety education through: training and education courses, publications, software development, significant involvement in safety-related conferences, educational website development, and more.
This year LIA nominates Mr. King who has worked in laser safety for more than 25 years, starting in 1991 with the Health Physics Group at NASA's Ames Research Center. Through his work as LSO for the National Ignition Facility, Mr. King expanded a laser safety newsletter now known as the Laser Lessons Newsletter, which enjoys a worldwide distribution list of over 2,500 readers.
Mr. King has played a significant role in organizing the Department of Energy's (DOE) LSO Workshops, serving on every technical planning committee since 2012, including hosting the 10th annual Workshop in 2014.
Furthermore Mr. King has made major contributions to ILSC in his role as Technical Practical Applications Seminars (TPAS) Co-Chair in 2017 and 2019, coordinating topics and speakers to deliver high quality laser safety information and encouraging the next generation of laser safety professionals. He currently serves as Chair of the DOE Energy Facilities Contract Organization Group's Laser Safety Task Group.
LIA will present Mr. King the Award at ILSC in Kissimmee, Florida on March 18th, 2019. ILSC will run from March 18th to 21st, 2019 and is LIA's premier comprehensive conference on laser safety. It will include scientific sessions, Industry Business Panel Discussions & Presentations and Practical Applications Seminars (PAS) that cover all aspects of laser safety practice and hazard control.
