NEW YORK, June 3, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Library Journal (LJ) today announced a new award to promote community advancement through public libraries, the Jerry Kline Community Impact Prize. Developed in partnership with the Gerald M. Kline Family Foundation, this award was created to recognize the public library as a community asset. One winning library will receive $250,000 from the Gerald M. Kline Family Foundation and will be showcased in LJ's November 2019 issue and online.
All U.S. public libraries are eligible to apply for the prize whether in a single building in a small town or a multi-branch system serving an entire region. The online submission portal opens today, with a deadline of August 1, 2019.
Gerald (Jerry) Kline, co-founder and former owner of Innovative Interfaces, a provider of library management software, is a well-known champion of libraries.
"This prize is a natural outcome of my appreciation of what libraries, especially public libraries, do for their communities," Kline said.
Nominations will be evaluated based the library's impact on the community in areas such as engagement, inclusion, leadership development, sustainable thinking, and inventiveness.
