We want to offer consumers a way to handle stress and better understand their tolerance levels.
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (PRWEB) November 29, 2016
Lief Therapeutics, a San Francisco-based startup, has created a new wearable that puts users in control of their body’s natural stress response. The biosensing patch offers users gentle, safe biofeedback exercises to improve self-regulation. Lief’s team has turned to Kickstarter with hopes to raise $50K for their new wearable patch. With Lief, users can reduce anxiety when it’s happening and learn to calm their mind, pay attention to their body’s state and voluntarily control their heart, breathing and mindset.
“We want to offer consumers a way to handle stress and better understand their tolerance levels. When an individual is stressed, they can utilize Lief to build resilience and take control of their situation,” said Lief Therapeutics CEO Rohan Dixit. “Our wearable was designed and developed with clinicians. With Lief, consumers are in control.”
Developed with Stanford and UCSF clinicians, Lief’s team discovered first-hand that meditation techniques have a positive impact on an individual’s overall well being. The team then spent a year trekking through the Himalayan Mountains to measure the brainwaves and heartbeats of meditating Tibetan monks. Throughout the journey, the team studied how the power of a trained mind can control the body. They also learned how anxiety causes knee-jerk responses to triggers, increasing heart rate and shallow breathing. That’s where Lief comes in.
Using the biosensing patch, consumers can use Lief to set a routine and practice the mental and physical skills recommended to improve self-regulation. In addition, with its accompanying app, users can identify thinking patterns that negatively affect their body, set a routine and practice the mental and physical skills recommended to improve self-regulation. The wearable’s short daily sessions last less than three minutes long and can be performed anywhere at any time.
The Control session helps users monitor and stabilize their heart rate with concentration and focus to increase performance. Resilience exercises help users work toward a calmer nervous system and mental state to better handle external events. Using the Nudge session, users can reinforce their own unique practice or exercises from their coach or therapist. In addition, the Calm routine encourages healthy deep breathing to relax the mind and keep users calm throughout their day.
With Lief, users can easily record thoughts, emotions, behaviors and sensations to help pinpoint the underlying causes of stress. In addition to a variety of exercises and sessions, the Lief patch also measures heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV) and breathing to recognize stress and anxiety patterns. Users may then use their Lief Health Score to track daily progress and practice exercises based on their own needs.
Backers can soon reduce their anxiety in real time. The team launched Lief on Kickstarter today where backers can purchase their own Lief patch for $159, which is 45% off the future retail price of $299. For more information, visit the campaign at bit.ly/Lief_KS.
