Lifestyle Medicine Foundation Presents Awards for Lifetime Acheivement
(PRWEB) December 09, 2015 -- The Lifestyle Medicine Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an extraordinary body of work that has advanced the field of Lifestyle Medicine, and, in the process, paved the way for others to follow. It is presented to individuals who have been devoted to the cause of Lifestyle Medicine for half of their lives or more.
These awards are the first in the history of the Lifestyle Medicine organizations, and represent outstanding leadership and achievements in the field. They reflect a growing interest and passion among healthcare professionals for using evidence based lifestyle modifications as a primary source of treatment for lifestyle related conditions.
The Lifestyle Medicine Trailblazer award recognizes an individual who has provided leadership in the field of Lifestyle Medicine, or helped strengthen the foundation laid by others, while advancing it through innovation. This individual is recognized for significant contributions he or she has made in any one of several domains.
Dean Ornish, MD, is the Founder and President of the non-profit Preventive Medicine Research Institute and Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. For over 36 years, Dr. Ornish has directed clinical research demonstrating that comprehensive lifestyle changes may begin to reverse even severe coronary heart disease, without drugs or surgery. Recently, Medicare agreed to provide coverage for this program, the first time that Medicare has covered a program of comprehensive lifestyle changes.
John Kelly, MD, MPH, or Dr. John,” as he is affectionately called by patients and staff, is passionate about Lifestyle Medicine. Dr. Kelly received the American Medical Association’s Excellence in Medicine Award in 2004 as a Young Physician for his work in establishing the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, the medical specialty society for clinicians who specialize in the use of therapeutic lifestyle interventions in the treatment and management of disease.

"The Lifestyle Medicine Foundation is pleased to partner with our sister organization, the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, in creating and presenting the first formal awards in the field that many are now recognizing as the future of medicine,” said Marc Braman, MD, President of the Lifestyle Medicine Foundation. “We are very pleased to recognize and express our gratitude to Dean and John for giving of themselves and pioneering a far superior kind of healthcare, both for healthcare professionals and the many millions we serve—a healthcare that treats the cause and has only positive side effects."
We invite the public to join us and post their gratitude to Dr Ornish and Dr. Kelly on the wall of gratitude on our website.
