“What Kids Did Before TV”: a nostalgic foray into a memorable past, is the creation of published author Linda T. Legg, a retired public-school teacher and church cofounder alongside her husband. She lives in Florida with her granddaughter.
Legg writes, “Growing up in the late 1940s and early 1950s in a small town in West Virginia, before the advent of TV, the author and her brothers were left alone to amuse themselves throughout the day. She and the gang of kids in the neighborhood came up with some very unique activities and pranks without close adult supervision.
“Based on these true events from her childhood, the short stories in his book give an account of the things these kids actually did. They did not have TV to distract them.
She marvels today that she and her brothers grew up to become respectable adults. She hopes that the Statute of Limitations has expired in the fifty years since these acts were perpetrated even though they were just good, clean fun at the time.
“As she remembers some of the events of her childhood, she is thankful that she was given the freedom to roam about town as she chose during the day with little adult supervision. The events described in this book are a result of that freedom.”
Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Linda T. Legg’s new book is an enthusiastic confessional revealing the true stories of how a group of children snuck into a theater, wild rabbits were baited and caught, a barnyard bull came to roam the streets of Route 19, and a make-believe Native American brush fort was set ablaze, among other things.
Readers jaded with the stress and drama of the modern world will find much to delight in Linda’s playful and ineffably innocent recollections.
