Lisane Basquiat and her sister, Jeanine Heriveaux, have been named to the 2026 EBONY Power 100 list in the 'Artists in Residence' category, recognized for their work co-administering the estate of their brother, Jean-Michel Basquiat.
SAN DIEGO, Oct. 7, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- List Also Features Debbie Allen, Jay-Z, Naomi Osaka.
Lisane Basquiat has been named one of the honorees of the EBONY Power 100, EBONY announced Monday. The iconic media company recognizes leaders, visionaries, and changemakers shaping culture across business, entertainment, sports, media, music, STEM, and community leadership. Lisane is honored alongside her sister, Jeanine Heriveaux, in the Artists in Residence category for their work as co-administrators of the Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Fellow Artists in Residence honorees span visual art, music, dance, literature, and film, and include director, producer, and choreographer Debbie Allen, global icons Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz, Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Colson Whitehead, Spelman College President Dr. Ayanna Howard, and choreographer Charm La'Donna. Other 2026 honorees include Jay-Z, founder of Roc Nation, and tennis champion Naomi Osaka. The full list is available at EBONY.com/Power100.
In its honoree profile, EBONY credits the sisters with reintroducing Jean-Michel Basquiat to the world as the man, brother, and son they knew, writing: "Humanizing him in a way only they can, they demonstrate that you should not, in fact, separate the art from the artist or, further, the human being from his roots." This year's theme, "The Stories We Shape," centers on narrative ownership, which speaks directly to the sisters' work ensuring their brother's story is told by the people who knew him best. Honorees will be celebrated at the invitation-only EBONY Power 100 Gala on Monday, Nov. 9, at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, produced in partnership with Emmy-winning Jesse Collins Entertainment.
For Basquiat, the recognition is personal. "Growing up first-generation in Boerum Hill in the 1970s, I bought EBONY and Jet from the newsstand. Those pages reflected a beauty and accomplishment that the news and popular culture rarely showed, and they confirmed what I already knew - that Black is beautiful, accomplished, human. To have my sister's and my work stewarding our brother's legacy recognized by EBONY is surreal. Thank you, EBONY."
For Lisane, preserving her brother's legacy and helping others build their own draw from the same place. Just as she and her sister protect the story Jean-Michel left behind, her work as a legacy healing strategist guides people to examine the patterns they've inherited and choose which ones to carry forward. She brings that work to live audiences this fall through two virtual sessions of "Your Past Is Your Present." On Sun., Oct. 11 from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. PT, Basquiat will host "Your Past Is Your Present: Relationship Edition," which will help attendees better understand their recurring patterns, emotional triggers, and the protective behaviors beneath them. On Sun., Nov. 8 from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. PT, Basquiat will host "Your Past Is Your Present: Family Edition," which will help attendees understand the patterns that divide families.
