Local Business Owner Hooks a Deal on ABC’s Shark Tank
St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) November 04, 2014 -- Local business owner of Myself Belts, Talia Bahr Goldfarb, hooked a $75,000 investment on the ABC reality competition series, Shark Tank, on October 31.
Goldfarb presented the line of award-winning belts she co-founded with her sister, Danielle Bahr Eason, to the judges. The belts feature Velcro straps that make it easy for children to fasten themselves.
Goldfarb went on the show seeking a strategic partnership to help grow her 10-year-old business. Judge Daymond John, who is a fashion and branding expert, bit on the belts and offered Goldfarb a $75,000 investment for a 25 percent stake in the company.
"I went on Shark Tank hoping that Daymond would be interested in the licensing potential of our patent,” Goldfarb said. “Although most of the sharks were quite brutal with me, Daymond believed in both me and the potential growth opportunity of Myself Belts. We are thrilled to have him as a partner and can’t wait to see what the next few months bring.”
Goldfarb hopes to use the investment to expand the distribution of the line. She said, "We hope to secure licensing deals both nationally and internationally so that Myself Belts are more readily available both for the uniform and mass market."
Goldfarb and Eason created these belts 10 years ago when Goldfarb and her husband couldn’t find a belt their toddler son could fasten himself. Throughout the years, the line has grown to include belts for teenagers and adults with hand dexterity difficulties.
Since the show aired, Goldfarb has heard from parents of children and teens with special needs. “They are so excited to have discovered our easy-to-use belt and share it with their friends, schools, and organizations,” Goldfarb said. “Knowing that so many kids will feel proud to be able to use their own belt is so gratifying.”
Because of the response from the special needs market, Goldfarb said the company plans to expand its teen and adult line to include more fabric options for both men and women.
Goldfarb is excited for the next chapter for Myself Belts. “Opportunity awaits, she said, “and I am buckled up for the ride.”
