NEW YORK, March 2, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- On the morning of February 9th, 2021, a Long Island family was reunited after the father of three small children was released from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) custody. He had spent more than eight months in federal detention centers in Louisiana and New Jersey, and was on the verge of deportation when a federal judge issued a temporary stay of removal in his long-pending immigration case.
Mr. Singh, 47, an immigrant from India, has resided in the United States since 1993 and is married to a U.S. citizen since 2014. The couple has 3 small children, all born in the United States, including the 8-year-old seriously disabled Ashmeet.
In 1999, Mr. Singh was ordered to voluntarily depart the U.S. following the denial of his application for political asylum by an Immigration Judge. Subsequently, immigration officials allowed him to remain in the country while under an order of supervision which required him to periodically check-in with Immigration authorities. In the interim period, Mr. Singh remained gainfully employed, paying his taxes, supporting his family, and obeying all laws of the United States. He married his current wife and mother of his children in 2014 and was processing his application to become a lawful permanent resident when ICE arrested and detained him in early summer 2020 under the Trump Administration's zero tolerance immigration policy.
The law firm Pollack, Pollack, Isaac & DeCicco was retained to represent Mr. Singh soon after his incarceration to forestall his imminent removal from the U.S., and to gain his release from detention. Despite the extreme complexity of Mr. Singh's case, and following numerous legal setbacks, Pollack, Pollack, Isaac & DeCicco, LLP persevered and ultimately was successful in convincing ICE to exercise favorable discretion in his case, and he was freed from immigration custody.
He was finally able to return to his home in Long Island, celebrating a joyous reunion with his family. Mr. Singh's quest to obtain his lawful permanent residence in the U.S. is coming to fruition as his visa petition was recently approved.
