Long-time University Professor Helps Others Go From PRO2PROF
First-Of-Its-Kind Training Program Transitions Professionals To Professors
DETROIT, July 16, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Detroit-area Lolita Cummings Carson, APR, a 25-year tenured professor at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, is helping experts in communications-related fields transition from professional to professor – just as she did nearly 30 years ago.
Those who attend Cummings Carson's Pro2Prof two-day workshops, the first of which is scheduled for Sept. 20-Sept. 21 in the Detroit area, will emerge with the information, skills and knowledge needed to branch out on a new and rewarding career path.
"When I began teaching nearly 30 years ago, I really could have used the information taught in my workshops," said Cummings Carson. "At the time, I was working full-time in public relations, but I wanted to get into academia to share what I'd learned with students. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Occupational Outlook Handbook, now is an excellent time for professionals to explore academic careers. Until 2026, the projected percent change for employment is 15% for post-secondary instructors, much higher than the 7% average expected for other occupations.
The Pro2Prof two-day workshops will share with participants teaching methods for on-line and on-campus courses, how to design their own syllabus and classroom assignments, course and classroom management, employment resources and strategies, how to select the best textbooks, and more.
