Lonie Savage of The Whitley Law Firm, P.C. Receives Board Certification in Family Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization

SAN ANTONIO, March 12, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Texas Board of Legal Specialization (TBLS) announced Lonie Savage received Board Certification in Family Law. Ms. Savage is a paralegal at The Whitley Law Firm, P.C. in Bexar County, Texas. Ms. Savage has been with the firm since its founding in 2013. Prior to 2013, Ms. Savage worked with Deanna L. Whitley at another firm.
According to the TBLS, paralegal certification "recognizes and promotes the availability, quality, and utilization of the services of paralegals who, working under the supervision of duly licensed attorneys, have achieved a level of special knowledge in particular areas of law..." There are several thousand paralegals in Texas. Fewer than 400 are Board Certified by the TBLS.

About Board Certification for Paralegals:
According to the TBLS, "Board Certification is a singular professional achievement few paralegals achieve. It is also a significant personal accomplishment.
Within the Texas legal community, Board Certification distinguishes a paralegal as having substantial, relevant experience in a select field of law as well as demonstrated and tested special competence in that area of law."
To become Board Certified in a specialty area, a paralegal must:
- Have at least 5 years' experience as a paralegal (including 3 years in Texas in the specific specialty area);
- Currently work under the supervision of a licensed attorney doing business in Texas;
- Have at least 50% of paralegal duties concentrated in specialty areas;
- Attended continuing education seminars regularly to keep legal training up to date
- Completion of Baccalaureate or higher degree, or completion of an accredited paralegal program, or two additional years of relevant experience for a total of 7 years of actual experience
- Pass a 4-hour written examination
