LOS ANGELES, Nov. 17, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- After Thanksgiving, shoppers scour malls and the Internet to find the best deals on holiday items on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday. That weekend also encourages people to visit museums and support these institutions by perusing the aisle at their gift shops on Nov. 27, known as Museum Store Sunday.
Honoring museums and what they do in presenting history to visitors, The Los Angeles-based The TeaBook is partnering with the Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) to present a special tea party with arts and crafts activities to celebrate Hispanic culture. Also, appearing on that day will be Los Angeles-based Mexican illustrator and writer Mirelle Ortega who will give a presentation about her drawing methods. She has created covers for award-winning middle-grade book series such as "From The Desk of Zoe Washington," "Cece Rios," and "Love Sugar Magic" and artwork for acclaimed chapter book series such as "The Mythics," "Vote For Effie," and "Mermaids Rock." Ortega's debut picture book as an author "Magic: Once Upon a Faraway Land" was jury selected by the Society of Illustrators' (SOI) Original Art Show, an annual exhibit created to showcase illustrations from the year's best children's books published in the U.S.
The TeaBook's owner Noah Bleich chose to sell his organic, kosher, Non-GMO and wheat-free teas as unique gift items in museums like the Seattle Art Museum, San Diego Museum of Art, and ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum in Ashland, Oregon because of what they do for people.
"There's a correlation between what we make which are teas and what museums do, and that is to educate people," Bleich said. "The characters that appear on our artistically drawn and designed tea wrappers are historical. Most museums have some form of a historical component. These museums are presenting things that have been discovered in the past."
He explained that museums and his teas provide an interactive element. Bleich's artists draw hidden items found on the tea wrappers that are part of the company's creative intellectual property. For example, looking at ShakeSpearmint tea which pays homage to William Shakespeare, the wrapper contains an embracing couple which is a nod to "Romeo and Juliet," and the calendar date of March 15 known as the Ides of March from "Julius Caesar." Some people, Bleich said, are so taken with the teas that they save them as collector's items.
"Learning about these historical figures and artists and finding these hidden items on the wrappers brings up a conversation, whether it's positive or negative," he said. "Museums also invoke conversations about the people, places, and things presented in their spaces. We are aligned in that way."
Bleich credits his passion for art and history stems from his Jewish roots and from his late mother Linda D. Bleich, who was a special education teacher.
"She always believed that education was crucial," he said. "If you don't know about something, you could be easily misled because you have no other reference," he said.
