Louis Capano Family Foundation Announce Exceptional Care for Children as Beneficiary of Annual Fundraiser Event

WILMINGTON, Del., Sept. 17, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Louis Capano Family Foundation (LCFF) has announced Exceptional Care for Children (ECC) as the beneficiary of its 2019 annual Golf Outing fundraiser event. As Delaware's first and only pediatric skilled nursing facility, ECC improves the lives of technology-dependent children and their families through skilled nursing, transitional services, and palliative care in the homelike setting of their Newark facility.

Building a Healthcare Bridge

13-year-old Mattie is one of 41 medically fragile children living a happy and healthy childhood because of the existence of Exceptional Care for Children, located in Newark. He has called ECC home for the majority of his life due to an extremely complicated medical background with a life threatening diagnosis. He requires an artificial airway and a ventilator to control his breathing, and because he doesn't eat by mouth, a feeding tube has been placed in his stomach.

Not long ago, children like Mattie probably would not have survived. They were too sick to be treated at home, and hospitals didn't have the advanced medical technology necessary to help them thrive. Residential pediatric care, like ECC, helped change that. Now, they are working toward another healthcare bridge.

Like Mattie, children with chronic issues can end up residing at ECC on a long-term basis. Currently, residents must transition out of ECC prior to their 21st birthday. To fill that healthcare age gap, ECC has launched a capital campaign with the goal of building additional living and medical services quarters to house residents as they grow into adulthood.

"We first heard about ECC through our work with the Mary Campbell Center, who also offer a similar homelike environment but for adults with disabilities," said Capano. The Louis Capano Family Foundation was established in 2007 with the charge of supporting child- and healthcare-relative initiatives that bring hope and happiness to the children, youth, and families of the Delaware community. The Foundation's signature fundraising event is the annual LCFF Golf Outing. To date, this tournament has donated more than $1 million to local charities. In addition, the LCFF together with other Capano entities have given over $3 million to charity through donations, sponsorships, partnerships, and grants.
