Love and Maya Exhibit Opens at Boston Children's Museum

An Exhibit About Love and Respect for Others by Sneha Shrestha

BOSTON, July 26, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Boston Children's Museum will open the Love and Maya exhibit by Sneha Shrestha on August 6. In Love and Maya, the artist creates space for visitors to explore how to show love and respect to others.

Love and Maya is designed to encourage collaboration between visitors within the gallery space, including those who may not speak the same language. Visitors will have the opportunity to work together to light up two paintings that stand out from the floor-to-ceiling hand painted murals. On one painting "Love" appears in English, on the other the word "Maya," which means love in the artist's native language.

"Nepali artist and educator Sneha Shrestha brings her unique blend of Sanskrit scriptures and graffiti art to Boston Children's Museum in the Love and Maya Gallery exhibit," said Senior Art Educator Sage Brousseau. "This installation, created with young people in mind, inspires a sense of cultural pride in one's own background– reminding us that our differences are important, and we can all show love and respect to others, transcending our differences, especially those rooted in race, culture, and language."

Shrestha's mural "Mindful Mandalas" was on view at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She was also recently commissioned by the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum to create a thirty-foot sculpture, currently on view. She was recognized by WBUR as one of the 25 millennial artists of color impacting Boston. Shrestha's public murals live all over the country and are also held in the private collections of Facebook, Google, and Fidelity Investments. Sneha is also an educator. She established Nepal's first Children's Art Museum to provide a creative space where children and youth can develop 21st century skills through project-based art experiences.

Sneha received her master's from Harvard University. Besides creating larger than life murals and paintings, Sneha passionately supports Asian art by working as the Arts Program Manager at the South Asia Institute at Harvard. She splits her time between her studio in Somerville and her family home in Kathmandu with her parents and bilingual dog, Milo.

Love and Maya will be open August 6, 2022 - November 13, 2022

Hours and Admission
The Museum is open Monday – Sunday through September 5 with two set daily time slots, 9:00am-12:00pm and 1:30-4:30pm. To reduce touchpoints and enable timed visits, all ticketing will be done online. Members must also make reservations online. There are a limited number of visitor reservations available for each time slot. Adults, $20, children (1-15) and senior citizens, $20; children under 12 months and Museum members are always free.
