M&S Technologies Adds the Amsler Grid to the Smart System® Tablet
Niles, IL (PRWEB) April 30, 2014 -- M&S Technologies, the first name in computerized vision testing systems, has just added yet another test to the suite of near tests developed for the Smart System Tablet.
AMD is the number one cause of severe vision loss and legal blindness in the U.S. for adults over age 60. There are two types of AMD: wet (neovascular) and dry (atrophic). There is no cure for AMD, but new treatments are available for the wet form of the disease. Unfortunately, there is no treatment for dry AMD, but training and special devices can promote independence and a return to favorite activities.
One of the first signs of AMD can be blurred or missing areas of vision, or seeing straight lines as wavy, broken or distorted. The Amsler Grid can help detect these symptoms. Early detection of wet AMD is critical because laser treatment is most successful when performed before damage occurs. Since dry AMD can lead to wet AMD, most patients should use the Amsler Grid.
