Macquarie Telecom Enables Sony’s Growth Plans with Agile Mobility Platform
Sydney, NSW (PRWEB) July 03, 2013 -- Macquarie Telecom (ASX: MAQ), Australia’s number one integrated Telecommunications, Managed Hosting and Cloud Company, has been chosen by Sony Australia to deliver mobile and data network services across its Australian and New Zealand fleet. The solution has already helped Sony Australia reduce monthly mobile costs by up to 50 per cent and consolidate its five networks within a single-infrastructure solution.
Sony Australia will also host hybrid infrastructure in Macquarie Telecom’s Tier 3-certified Intellicentre 2, including two 100%-Uptime co-location racks and a virtual data centre environment designed to support mission-critical applications with unlimited compute and storage scalability.
The new deal marks the latest stage in a six-year relationship between the two companies, and sees Macquarie Telecom establish itself as the sole vendor for Sony Australia’s telecommunications portfolio with full integration into its high-growth hosting strategy. Sony selected Macquarie Telecom based on its consistently outstanding levels of customer service and strategic consultancy, the strength of its Management Tools portfolio, and the flexibility of its mobile offering in terms of carrier choice, billing framework, and price.
“We were in need of more flexibility and choice to support our broader Asia-Pacific IT requirements in an optimal way,” said David Cooley, Infrastructure and Operations Manager, Sony Australia and New Zealand. “Not only did we lack basic visibility or responsiveness over our network and routers – any network changes, even urgent ones, had to go through Japan – but we also had to manage a siloed billing process which meant IT personnel were spending up to 3 days manually processing data and network costs.”
“Macquarie Telecom had already established itself as a trusted advisor through outstanding account management and customer service from its Sydney-based Macquarie Hub. The combination of acute counsel and seamless technical delivery has substantially reduced complexity and costs through its integrated approach to our internal communications systems, allowing us to now focus on scaling up for near- and long-term growth across the business.”
As well as offering flexible carrier switching and oversight for the company’s mobile fleet, Macquarie Telecom’s Management Tools gave Sony Australia/New Zealand granular real-time control over its network costs and utilisation. Supported by Macquarie Telecom’s tariff-based pricing model, Sony used Management Tools to significantly reduce the time and costs of the billing process – allowing it to focus on strategic operations including the consolidation of five different sub-networks under a single managed service with Macquarie Telecom.
“Not only have we streamlined our disparate networks and their costs under the one umbrella, but we’ve also enabled multi-carrier availability over each of our six New Zealand operating locations, ensuring continuous uptime for our critical operations,” said Cooley. “Thanks to management tools like FleetView for mobility and InView for network platform management, we now have complete control over our mobile fleet and data network for the first time ever – something often promised but rarely delivered by other vendors.”
Macquarie Telecom’s advisory expertise also proved essential as Sony Australia/New Zealand sought guidance on emerging IT trends in the business, including consolidation of all voice infrastructures in Australia to Macquarie Telecom’s SIP network – a move expected to halve the company’s current line rental costs.
“We’d often heard about Macquarie’s world-class product and service range, but their standard of account management and customer service is equally exemplary,” said Cooley. “The account managers at Macquarie Telecom have been the ones who’ve really tied together the multiple threads of this deal, creating a seamlessly integrated telecommunications offering which truly frees up our staff to focus on growth in Australia, New Zealand, and the wider Asia-Pacific region.”
“Our work with Sony Australia/New Zealand has given us the chance to showcase our full range of Telecommunications capabilities, from mobility solutions with multi-carrier flexibility to a fully optimised and managed data network – all complemented by the hosting infrastructure to support Sony’s tactical forays into collocated, agile computing,” said Chris Greig, Group Executive – Telecommunications, Macquarie Telecom. “We’re extremely grateful to have taken part in Sony’s technology journey and look forward to the next stage of Sony’s remarkable evolution and the opportunity to provide further strategic counsel.”
