Made in Oklahoma’s Holiday by the Numbers
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (PRWEB) December 23, 2014 -- The holiday season is full of numbers. The number of kids who believe in Santa, the number of stores that stay open late, the number of partridges in a pear tree, and the list goes on. This year the Made In Oklahoma Coalition is adding in a few more numbers for Oklahomans to think about, with their Holiday By The Numbers campaign. This campaign demonstrates how much food is produced, distributed, and consumed in our Great State of Oklahoma, during this time of year.
M.I.O. has identified three of its members, Shawnee Milling Company, Schwab's Meat Company, situated in the heart of Oklahoma City, and Field's Pies, located in Pauls Valley. This time of the year, production lines in all three companies are running non-stop as they seek to fulfill holiday orders and ensure delivery commitments are met. Let's take a look at the numbers.
“Shawnee Milling Company has been providing the best in baking ingredients for Oklahoma families since 1906. Thanksgiving and Christmas generate some of the heaviest baking activity of the year as families gather to enjoy holiday traditions, many of which revolve around food. Providing products made from Oklahoma wheat and corn grown by the finest farmers in the world, and milled at our plant in Shawnee, we are proud of our role in the Made in Oklahoma Coalition,” says Shawnee Milling Company Senior Vice President, Sam Garlow.
Shawnee Milling Company ships hundreds of truckloads of flour and corn meal to retail grocers. They typically sell over one million pounds of flour and cornmeal every day during the holiday season.
Field’s Pies produces 65,000 pies per week during the holiday months. As most of us know, Field’s Pies is known for their famous pecan pie – about 85% of their sales. This being said, they use about 16,000 pounds of pecans each week. “Let’s just say that makes for a lot of scrumptious pies,” says owner of Field’s Pies, Chris Field.
Schwab’s Meat Company is dedicated to creating only the highest quality smoked meats and sausages. For over 100 years the Schwab family has incorporated only the finest ingredients and real hardwood hickory smoke in their products. This holiday season Schwab’s will sell about 14,000 hams and 6,000 turkeys.
