Maharishi University of Management holds First Colloquy on Deep Sustainability
Fairfield, IA (PRWEB) July 20, 2015 -- Sustainability experts from around the country gathered at Maharishi University of Management (MUM) for the university’s first annual Colloquy on Deep Sustainability held June 19–21 on the MUM campus.
Speakers included Sister Lucy Slinger, of the Franciscan Sisters Of Perpetual Adoration and Viterbo University, both in La Crosse, Wisconsin; Coleen O’Connell, professor at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and a leading expert in sustainable community development; and John Ikerd, author, professor emeritus at the University of Missouri, and one of the world’s leading experts on the family farm.
“Our focus was ‘deep sustainability,’” said Lonnie Gamble, assistant professor of sustainable living at MUM. “Deep sustainability is a worldview that moves sustainability beyond energy efficiency and substituting newer technologies for older technologies. It takes a more fundamental and holistic approach to making the world a better, healthier place to live. Deep sustainability challenges us to rethink the fundamental nature of our relationships with each other and with the entire earth — it redefines what it means to be truly human.”
