Main Street Dental Team, Unionville’s Most Innovative Dental Clinic, Remarks on New Regulation Allowing Dentists to Treat Their Spouses

Taking effect immediately, Bill 70, Regulated Health Professions Amendment Act (Spousal Exception), 2013 was given unanimous support. Its significance will be felt most in the rural and northern communities of Ontario. “This is one of those bills that helps move along the profession,” says Dr. Harvey Schwartz, owner of Main Street Dental Team. “It should be up to the individual to decide on who they can go to for dental services. Bill 70 is really a bill about choice.”
Bill 70 was originally passed in October 2013, when it received unanimous support. The bill, an amendment to the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991, was also supported by all three parties of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.
“Any way oral care can be made more accessible to everyone must be seen as a positive,” Dr. Schwartz concludes. “It’s important to remember how vital it is for people to receive regular oral care, no matter where they live. Access is the first step to positive oral health.”
