MaintenX International Helps Rock Hill Community Through RFMA Gives
The Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen in South Carolina was the recipient of RFMA Gives' charitable efforts, and MaintenX VP Bill Schaphorst was integral to project management of the event.
TAMPA, Fla., Oct. 14, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- At MaintenX International, giving back to the community is just part of the job. From charity marathons and toy drives to Habitat for Humanity house sponsorships and onsite volunteer days, MaintenX knows that supporting the local communities where they work is part of their continued success. Last week, MaintenX's VP of Business Development Bill Schaphorst represented MaintenX as a project manager for RFMA Gives 2021 Volunteer Day. Additionally, MaintenX donated a new wall mount mini-split A/C unit and a 7'x14' exterior walk-in refrigerator to help the organization continue to fulfill their mission of advocating for the hungry, needy, and underserved.
RFMA Gives is the Restaurant Facility Management Association's (RFMA) yearly charitable project. This year, the group selected The Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen in Rock Hill, South Carolina as the 2021 project recipient. The Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen provides a hot lunch, resources, and a friendly smile to more than 100 people in need each day. This year has presented additional opportunities and challenges to serve the South Carolina update, due in large part to the social and economic disruptions created by Covid-19.
Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen Director of Operations Jan Stephenson noted that many new people are coming in for food and resources. Additionally, she does not see the demand for meals and services decreasing any time soon, making RFMA and MaintenX's contribution and service even more vital.
"MaintenX International is always ready to give back to the cities we live, work and play in, and I'm thrilled to be able to give back to my own community" said Schaphorst, who resides just a few miles north of the soup kitchen in Charlotte, North Carolina. "RFMA Gives demonstrates what is possible when we all work together, and is an incredible opportunity to unite the restaurant facility management community. By contributing our professional knowledge to the project, we get to help the community by doing what we do best."
More than 65 volunteers came to help for Volunteer Day. The team was thrilled to finalize major tasks like interior painting, converting the entire building to LED lighting and exterior landscaping. A celebration of The Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen is planned for RFMA's annual conference in Spring 2021, however, plans and dates remain flexible due to the ongoing pandemic.
The 2021 project marks the 10th year that RFMA has selected a deserving non-profit organization to support. RFMA member companies donate their talents and resources to help restore the year's selected facility. RFMA's charitable efforts have aided organizations across the nation, including Denver's Stout Street Foundation, Austin's Mobile Loaves & Fishes, and Orlando's The Daily Bread.
